Barnacle is a 2-year-old terrier mix who is now living at the Coast Guard station in Milwaukee. Petty Officer Anthony Kaminski’s wife found Barnacle wandering in a grocery store parking lot while Kaminski was stationed in South Florida.
The Kaminskis spend six weeks looking for his owner, but no one came forward.
When Kaminski was reassigned to Milwaukee late last year, he brought Barnacle to the station and asked if he could become their official mascot.
“I had to talk to the crew about it because, ultimately, the crew has to take care of it and the crew is responsible,” Chief Eric Hopperdietzel said. “From the first day he arrived at the station, he was just right at home and just loved everybody.”
The crew took a vote, and Barnacle was in.
“We have a vest coming for him that has his name,” Hopperdeitzel said.
Kaminski thinks Barnacle has found his forever home.
“They love him, and he loves them, too,” he said.
After the official paperwork is completed, Barnacle is expected to be named the official mascot of Coast Guard Station Milwaukee this fall.
Two years ago, the Milwaukee Brewers adopted Hank, a stray dog found near their Maryvale spring training facility two years ago. Hank now lives with a member of the Brewers staff and makes appearances on behalf of the team.
